Hi, I'm picking up a design from another engineer. He selected Delrin 500 AL as a bushing material and a medium carbon steel, hardened and then zinc plated for corrosion resistance. Of course, the zinc plating is abrading.

I was thinking of switching to a 304 SS for the shaft material but thought the people here might have better suggestions.

Anyone have a better choice of shaft materials for running a Delrin 500 AL bushing on?

Thanks

Delrin should do better against SS than it does against against zinc in a corrosive environment as Delrin is sensitive to zinc chloride and acids.

Polyester is good against acids but not alkalis

PEs are better against both, but are soft and have lower melting temperatures.

It is always a compromise between the balance of various properties.

Delrin will run better on a hardened shaft. It will run on soft shaft materials but needs to have reduced speeds and loads and if any wear starts it will accelerate rapidly over a short period of time.

Can you comeback with a little more information on what you are trying to do with information on speeds and loads?
