This is a lesson that we should all learn about welding safety. Such fire in not uncommon when structures are being build or rehabilitated. All aspiring safety person should learn from such tragedy.

What a horrible tragedy - but what was it made from. I would have thought it was mostly steel and concrete which really don't burn that well.

Did the contents actually cause this much destruction?? and how did it penetrate walls and ceilings so fast that so many died??

Yes - expensive lessons to be learned.

Combustible fabric around the structure. Probably lack of control with welding sparks since it appears that chinese welders are being detained. I suspect that the punishment will be execution as was the case with the tainted milk scandal.

OH my gosh... We use fabric around scaffolds (which I understand were installed on this building) to contain or protect the work being done.

However - we MUST always use fire-retardant rated material. Just lax safety laws in China I suppose.

I saw a program with the crane operators replacing an obsolete TV tower from the top of an office building in San Antonio near the Alamo. The show was all about the riggers. However welders started a fire on top the building during the filming. It aint just China if it happens here too.

I agree. We have ALL this rules and laws to govern safety - both governmental and coporate. Most times when I investigate an accident - there is usually a blatant disregard for a well know rule.

You just can't fix stupid...

Gee what a surprise... China not following laws/regulations/safety standards/workmanship standards, and any other requirements,etc...
