Shape on cylindrical surface 1

Can some tell me how to create the following:
like 1/2 cutter in the center of the axis constantly and picture the cutter moving along the axis as the cylinder is rotating. And not necessarily a helical shape. In fact it looks like a bolt action shape of a barrel. Thanks

Do a search on this forum for variable section sweeps or helical sweeps. Here is a thread thread554-67609. Also check out the trajpar which can be used with the variable section sweep.
