Im currently working on a ion propulsion systems and need a way to shape a magnetic field.
I would like to get a cone shape using a round magnet.
I would appreciate all and any suggestions.

1960's 1970's Popular Science levitation platforms on the cover. Extract of Tesla? or who? I don't remember, possibly a noted Russian scientist who shapped a magnetic field into a cone by building a wire grid (base)(-) with a support pole in the center extending up to a spherical ball (+) levitation was obtained but not w/o external an external power supply.

Hope this helps

Could you clarify your intent?
Perhaps you want the lines of magnetic induction to come out at one face of a round magnet at angles, instead of being substantially parallel as with a cylindrical magnet?
A domed end round magnet would do something like this.
You should also specify if this is a permanent magnet application, and the degree of uniformity you require for the field.
With magnets you can do many things, but of course for non trivial geometries a FEM calculation could be necessary, especially if you want a detailed knowledge of the field shape.
