Im looking to improve the process we use for getting quotes for tooling parts. We currently save our SolidWorks drawings as pdfs and foward them to our supplier. PDM doesnt play ball however all the time and there are often revision errors that pop up for no apparent reason which slow down the whole process. Also, parts can be revved up at the last minute and we might need to requote which is frustrating for our supplier (who is very understanding but Id still prefer not to be giving them these type of headaches).
Im looking into using OpenBOM. Does anyone know if it is possible to share drawings with a supplier through this platform (have contacted them and awaiting a reply). The idea being we dont need to save drawings as pdf and it is more of a pull system as opposed to a push, i.e. we just tell the supplier the drawings are ready to view, please go ahead and quote for batch x in OpenBOM (share a link with them). Or can anyone recommend a more efficient method for the quoting process you have in place?
