Sharing violation message-trying to open a part.

We installed the latest service pack for SW2001 plus, and now we cannot open parts within an assembly from the assembly itself. (Right click on part, click on open part.) I get a sharing violation message. There is a really quick window that states something about "converting, please wait", but it's too quick to read, then the sharing violation message appears. I can only view parts if I open the part file separately. Anyone else having this problem?

This happens to me occasionally. I think it's solved by getting out of solidworks completely and then going back in. Go ahead and save the files that converted, if given that choice. If that doesn't work, try restarting the computer. Let me know if that worked. Charley Leonard

alexs0628,
I don’t know if this will make any difference. I would get the read-only file, if the setting “Open referenced documents with read-only access” were checked under System Options, External References. Bradley

Thanks for the replies. The "Open reference docs with read only access" is not checked, and exiting Solidworks and/or re-booting the PC does not work. I also tried to open a part from a drawing. The feature does not work there either. We've notified Solidworks of this problem, but they haven't been any help.

Can you open the part on its own with write access? By on in its own I mean with out an assembly or drawing opened that references the part. I am assuming that you can.

Are these files located on your hard-drive or on a network. If they are located on the network try and copy them locally. You can do this by simply opening the assembly and doing a File, Find References, Copy Files. Once you have them local open the assembly. Once the assembly is loaded do a File, Find References to make sure that the assembly is grabbing them form your local drive. Now try and right-click on a part and open it. If this works, at the least, you narrowed it down to a network\SW issue. From there we probalbly can do some more trouble shooting nad figure this out. BBJT CSWP

I THINK I FOUND THE PROBLEM. I UNCHECKED "SLDTRANS 1.0" AND "SLDUG 1.0" IN 'TOOLS/ADD INS' PULL DOWN
MENU. I GUESS THERE USED TO A CONVERVION OF PRO E FILES. THE LATEST SERVICES PACKS EITHER ACTIVATED THESE ADD INS OR THEY WHERE ON AND THE LASTEST SERVICES AFFECTED THEM. I DON'T KNOW, BUT UNCHECKING THESE SELECTIONS CLEARED UP THE SHARING VIOLATION MESSAGE. THANKS FOR ALL THE SUGGESTIONS.

Wow, that's obscure to say the least. What lead you to look to see what Add-Ins were active? It's okay if your answer is "shear desperation."

Go figure! Glad to see you found a solution. BBJT CSWP
