Hello Eng_Tips,

I have inherited two Sharp PG-11A controllers, both mint and look serviceable.
I fancy using them in a job or two butt.... Sharp have discontinued support as
of Oct2014.

Does anyone out there have any pointers, faqs, .pdf files or anything?

Thanks in advance, John

No but I have a recommendation, if your projects are of any importance use something that can still be serviced.
If not important maybe use one and keep the others as back instead of servicing the one used.

Hi dV8r!

Thanks for this. I sure wouldn't use them for anything mission critical
-for the reasons you describe.

I just hate throwing away good equipment because the manufacturers choose to stop
supporting it. 'Marketing' is no doubt behind it but I often wonder how much such companies
give away in goodwill by this type of practice.

Well in my opinion, Sharp was never fully committed to being in the PLC business outside of Japan in the first place, so it's not surprising that they abandoned it.

"Good equipment" is a judgement call. If a PLC is no longer supported and cannot be used, it is not "good".
