Does anyone have a calculator or program that calculates the shear area on stub acme threads? I have an old dos version that calculates shear areas for stubs, acme's and V's, but I have to run a virtual window to access it since it is 32 bit. I may have to create a spreadsheet in the end, but thought I would ask. Thanks for any input or recommendations.

I have one, passed around the industry in the day, that was written based on the ASME/AISI codes. Why not write one from those Acme, Stub Acme, Buttress and UN Specifications? Or get a boot leg copy of the above program somewhere off the net.

Sturni-Hueston Engineering Ltd stopped providing open software after threat of a suit involving an inexperienced engineer mis-designing equipment. The claim was the software was incorrect, hence the failure of equipment. That prooved false, the engineer lost his license to practice and I was left with a valuable memory and an expensive education from my attorney.

Try Gagemaker, they give you the necessary information from which the equations can be used.

thanks dfox. Good stuff. Looks like I need to buy a new machineries handbook. Mine is at least 10 years old.
