Hello,
In Australia, most builders prefer flat slab with drop panels to slab with wide(band) beams. In one of my recent project, the client has asked if flat slab is adequate for the transfer slab of a lower rise apartment. My question is: under what situation 'beam shear' need to be checked over a column?
If the transfer slab has been checked OK with punching shear, but failed with 'beam shear', can we use shear studs as shear reinforcement, or use closed ties to create a hidden beam inside drop panel/slab? Would wide beams be more practical for transfer slabs?
Thanks,
Ting
