Does anyone know what the shear factor is for mild carbon steel in direct shear?

I need a dowel pin to shear and release two parts at a given load. The load is applied perpendicular to the dowel pin axis.

I want to calculate the pin diameter that will shear at this load. I know the UTS is 75 ksi. I just need the shear factor so I can calculate the shear strength. Shear Strength = Shear Factor x U.T.S.

Thanks.

Check your pin's CMTR. Actual tensile/shear may be significantly higher than the specified value.
