Hi,

Lets say I have two disc magnets of equal size that are stuck together with zero air gap. Are there any analytic methods for determining the shear force required to separate the two magnets? I've found formulas for determining the normal force required to separate the magnets, but not the shear force.

No, you'll have to resort to FEA/BEA to calculate the magnetic force of attraction. You'll have to specify the amount of displacement because the shear force will be zero if they are perfectly aligned.

Don't forget, you'll have frictional forces to overcome too.
