I am designing an irregular combined base. The foundation supports multiple walls and a column. The code that we use (South African) allows for shear reinforcement to be designed for the shear force a distance 2d from the face of the support, d being the effective depth. This is straight forward to obtain for simple bases and FEA software.

I have modelled the foundation in Csi Safe software. Determining the bending reinforcement is easy enough but the shear diagrams are quite complex due to the irregular geometry.

I have checked for maximum shear at the face of the walls/column but am not sure what shear force to use for the shear reinforcement design.

How do you approach this?
