I've attached two details - Is one, both or neither correct/typical?

I am also aware that Simpson makes hold downs which are more like straps that extend into the concrete but I'm 'neglecting' these for now.

The idea is typical for both and done all the time, but not with just straight rods unless they are threaded and set in epoxy.

If they are poured-in-place anchors, Simpson calls these SSTB abchors and they are usually used with HD type anchors. I believe the nomenclature has been changed in the recent Simpson catalog from A's to B's, and the values have changed too.

I agree with msquared48. Though I usually add addition vertical blocks next to the rim broad under the post in section 1.

As EOR's we should take the responsibility to design our structures to support the components we allow in our design per that industry standards.
