i am planning on ordering a 1/2 hard 110 copper .025" thick sheet (20" x 25"). i need to sheer (6) pieces that are 3-1/2" x 6" rectangles. i have never worked with copper before and i don't know if i'm going to run into problems with the edges after i shear the pieces because i will not have any left over material. we do have a 10' shear rated for 3/16" capacity. does anyone have any advice that will make me more comfortable in shearing the copper?

What is your concern? If the machine has a proper clamping mechanism and hard, sharp blades, then the copper will shear. The amount of rollover on the edges depends on the geometry of the blades and sample. I don't think there will be any problems. If the edges aren't great, you can grind/sand to improve them.

Thanks i'll give the snips a try. I was told by Cincinnati that the hold downs on the shear might leave an imprint on the sheet.
