I'm looking for some help interpreting the Special Design Provisions for Wind and Seismic Code Section 4.3.7 for Wood Structural Panel Shear Walls. It says "Nails along intermediate framing members shall be the same size as nails specified for panel edge nailing. At intermediate framing members, the maximum nail spacing shall be 6" o.c." with the exception "Where panels are thicker than 7/16" or studs are spaced less than 24" o.c. the maximum nail spacing shall be 12" o.c."

Does this mean that the field nailing for shearwalls with studs spaced at 24" o.c. has to match the edge nailing spacing?

23.95" stud spacing - nail spacing = 12"
24.00" stud spacing - nail spacing = 6"

The nature of code language.

What about the condition where the panel edge nailing is 3 inches on-center and the studs are spaced at 24" on-center. Do you interoperate that code section to indicate that the field nailing is 6" on-center or 3" on-center?

Where do you get 3” for field nailing? The provision only mentions matching the nail SIZE not the spacing.

Ah ha! I misread that as spacing, which started my confusion on this code statement. Thank you.
