Hello Guys;

I am designing a two story Single Family Dwelling. The second floor has a 3'-0" projection out of the first floor. I have designed my shearwall, but I need to know how to strap it, I usually use an MST but in this case, I do not have where to strap it to.

Attached is a sketch, any ideas?

Thanks

Depending on the uplift amount needed, I would use a Simpson MSTI 60 or 72 strap, center the strap at the center of the depth of the 2X12 joists, nail the upper strap to the shearwall end studs, and wrap the remainder either around the side of the double 2X12's and nail it off.

Make sure the double 2X12's can take the uplift in bending and shear, and also provide the same str4ap at the connection of the double 2X12's to the 2X bearing wall below, and to the foundation.

Oops!!!
I think I missed the point here.
I should have read the title of the post a little more carefully.

In my first paragraph I meant to say "...either around the side or the end of the double 2X12's..."
