I am going to design a river training wall which comprises steel sheet pile. The difficult doesn’t lie in the design of the sheet pile but in precast cladding to the sheet piles.

Does anyone have a sketch showing how the precast concrete panels fixed to the sheet pile wall?

HighPanda,

Suggest you contact MSE panel providers for details of possible attachment schemes - as these are the ones the contractors will actually use.

For a recent job involving soldier piles, I have seen a detail where the panels were connected to the piles as follows:

Short angles would be welded to the piles to attach to tabs cast into the panels (top and bottom of panels). The bottom tab had a pin that got set into a matching hole in the bottom angle. The top tab had a matching hole where a bolt attached to the top angle. This detail required some precision in setting the piling. Other arrangements are possible.

I would seriously consider the durability of a precast concrete facing attached to a sheet pile wall in the river. I would have concerns about damage to the precast from water flow, debris impact, ice, connection corrosion, etc.

we have proposed steel sheet pile several times in rivers without success due to the amount of gravel and cobbles in the river, it makes it difficult if not impossible to drive sheets. soldier piles may be better and would make easier and better attachment for the concrete
