I can access the ASTM and ASME standards but cannot find a standard for steel sheet gage and thickness. A standard exists that cross references sheet metal gage and the nonimal thickness with tolerances, etc. Perhaps this only applies to steel and a different standard applies to stainless, ... I need the thicnness for carbon and stainless steel sheet, preferably cold rolled sheet. It may be some other organization.

What organization publishes and what is the number of such standard?

Thanks,

John

Take a look at the website. One generally has to check a producers tolerance tables rather than trying to specify an item by some standard. Different mills hold to tolerances of what they can produce. You can usually get close to what you desire by shopping around. You will be surprised at some of the tolerance in different standards. Be careful in not specifying foil tolerances for sheet or sheet tolerance for plate

All the mechanical handbooks have tables.

You can look at A240 to find tolerances. Standard gages are a matter of convention, not specification.
If you are ordering a coil of stainless you can have it rolled to any decimal thickness that you want.
If you expect to find it in stock somewhere you need to check with your local sheet distributors.
Standard thicknesses for sheet are different from those used in the tubing business.

Corrosion never sleeps, but it can be managed.

As for thickness standards the machinist handbook. Tolerances will depend on your supplier, ask for a statement of certification from the suppliers or something to that effect.

Sorry, I submitted before I was done, many suppliers will offer you a book with all of their sheet products that will provide thickness, tolerances, weights...
