Shell cross section definition

Dear All,

Hello! Just a quick question was wondering if someone could help me out here - I am trying to define a "section" of a shell element - i.e the thickness. I am looking for this section to be a semi-ellipse, so a varying thickness. I was wondering how this was done?

I have been looking into creating a discrete field to map this? Perhaps this is the correct method of doing it, but alas, having looked through the documentation I still do not understand how to get this done!
