Shell elements division/meshing

Hi All,

Is there any rule of thumb to know when to mesh or divide shell elements? Like any ration saying for width to length ratio of X, suitable meshing/division is Y.

For instance, what's suitable division size for rectangular shell object with height of 6 and width of 4?
