In equation from 5.6.3.2, if H is 60 ft and the shell height of bottom shell course is 10 ft; to find the shell thickness for second shell course do we use the value of H as 50 ft in the provided eqn from section 5.6.3.2?
Please read 5.6.3.1 again:
5.6.3.1 The 1-foot method calculates the thicknesses required at design points 0.3 m (1 ft) above the bottom of each shell course,
For each course you use a different height - the dimension from the top of the tank down to one foot above the bottom of that particular shell course. If you are using 10 foot wide plate, you would do the calculations at 49, 39, 29, 19 and 9 feet.
Geoff13 - as usual you are correct and I apologize to Subodh for any plsting too quickly and not proofreading. From bottom to top using 10 foot wide plate you'd use H of 60, 50, 40, 30, 20 and 10 feet and evaluate the equation six times.
