Hi guys,

I've experinced some difficulties in probing the SHELL TO SOLID COUPLING feature.

I have a thin plate (S8R5 elements) with a stiff edge (C3D20R) under a large displacements analysis. The quadratic continuum elements and shell ones are alligned on the common edge, hence there's no reason there is a gap.

It's a very simple issue, but I couldnt solve it, although I went through the manual and some examples. I have defined the SOLID surface which is easily displayed in CAE, but when I define the element-based shell surface, with no matter which edge identifier I use, ONLY the EDGE parallel to the SOLID - SHELL intersection line, opposite to the intersection (along the elements that define the shell-surface) is displayed.

Would anyone explain this to me? I ran the job with this wrong (I believe is wrong) shell-surface and get some errors like:

***WARNING: SHELL NODE 2091 INSTANCE SHELL-1 MET THE POSITION TOLERANCE FOR Shell To Solid Coupling BUT NO COUPLING NODES WERE FOUND. INCREASING THE VALUE OF THE Influence Distance MAY BE NEEDED.

***ERROR: NO COUPLING CONSTRAINTS WERE DEFINED FOR Shell To Solid Coupling CONSTRAINT NAME CONSTRAINT-1. INCREASING THE VALUE OF THE Influence Distance MAY BE NEEDED.

There is no reason to believe I have to impose an Influence Distance. I have used the same card formats as in online doc, but no change in the error messages.

I would appreciate any help...

Regards,

Jm
