Hello:

I have a problem which deals with "buckling" of a rectangular cross-sectional boom. The boom has about 300 in length, 0.25 in thick, and 22 in side.

My question is: which type of element (shell vs. solid brick element) should be the most appropriate for this buckling problem?

Thank you for your insight.

Kind regards,

Shells. Solids would be more appropriate for the case where stress were non linear through each side wall, which is unlikely.
