Question relates to shimming.

For vertical vessels installed on steel decks/steel support (on offshore facilities as an example) and not on concrete foundation with grouting, are there any code/standards requirement restricting the use of multiple shims (packs) per location i.e. shims need to be of a single piece machined to size?

1. If there is, please advise which code/standard.
2. If there is no restriction as mentioned above, do the shims need to be tack/stitch welded to each other and to the base of the steel structure?

Many thanks in advance.
