Virginian Pilot Article

This is, admittedly, not a failure in the sense usually discussed here, but given some of the recent posts about other ship fires (*cough* Bonhomme Richard *cough*), I thought it good to recognize the good performance of these sailors in a similar environment. And as a former nuclear electrician's mate with more PE watches in my past (both in the yards and at sea) than I care to remember, it resonated with me a bit.

Concur; USS Eisenhower is giving evidence of being on target. The sailors responded exactly the way they needed to.[thanks2]

Interesting track. They mention "not under command" but don't go into detail. Presumably a steering casualty?

Not under command is a general term. It could be anything from a steering casualty to an incapacitated crew. In the case of the APL ship it was an engine room fire that required deployment of the fixed firefighting system.
