Hi all. We have bought an AuCom MV softstarter panel and are arranging the delivery. We are already late in our project and need to do it by air, which needs the panel to be placed on its side horizentally. Some speciallists believe that doing so would damage the softstarter capacitors or other elements, so we need to make sure about it.
Can anybody help us with it and clear the reasons why it may damage the equipment?

Without any real facts, I would like to say, that it is not true.
When you buy them as a componenet, they come in a bag and there is no possibility at all to check how they are placed in the bag or under shipping.
All I know is that they can dry out if they are mounted, used or left for too long and exposed to high heat.
Possibly they can freeze.
Or possibly they could be exposed to pressure changes under the flight if the shipping space does not have pressure equalization, which could causes them to contract and expand.
If this could harm them, I do not know.
But none of the above is affected by, if they are standing or lying down.

We have many frequency converters and soft starters at the factory that are sent for repair and come back both new and repaired.
And we have no idea how they are transported.
And I have never heard of anyone not working.

Mayby I should have asked if you are refering to the condencators or the cabinets lying down ?

In this picture, the capacitors are standing, but when they are mounted in the cabinet, they are horizontal?

What capacitors? A soft starter is not a VFD, there are no DC bus capacitors in it. There are some small capacitors on the PC boards and such, but shipping position would have no bearing on them. If there are Power Factor Correction Capacitors, have those shipped separately and mount them in the field.

More critical might be stresses put on any bus bar supporting insulators in the act of getting it on its side and back upright again. But does the Aucom soft starter have bus bars like that? I think it depends on the entire package design. The people to ask this of are Aucom.

One of our memners here, MarkE, is the founder of Aucom, maybe he will see this and respond.
