shut off valves

do you know what is shut off valves and where is it applied?what types of these valves are?

Shut-off valve is a valve that can be closed quickly if an emergency situation occurs in you facility. The valve has an actuator that operates on air, UPS, hydraulic fluid, etc.

i think thats an emergency-shut of valve (ESV).

As far as i know a shut of valve is a common designation for any valve that is either open or closed be it manually or mechanically actuated. It should of course "shut something of" eg. a pipe section a piece of equipment or the like. A ESV is also a shut of valve but in an emergency shut down loop.

I don't know the designation used in other countries, but in the oil and gas industries that I have worked for, SDV designation is used for Shut Down Valve. This is also in accordance with API-14C, Table 2.1

For Shut off valve, the first thing that came to mind is tight shut-off valve. These are basically manual valves in which 2 valves can be installed in a line to provide tight shut-off when the line is not in service.

I stand to be corrected.
