I am looking for a carbon steel similar to A516 grade 70 (plate) but in casting or forging or bar for a more massive part of the vessel.
Which nuance is common, and has same price and similar properties to A 516 grade 70?
Application is for pressure vessel.
Thanks for your help.

You are going to need to obtain/review a copy of ASME Section II, Part A and review the material specifications for the various product forms.

I am not having the standards right away, but SA395 (for casting) will come closer to 516 Gr70. The UTS, YS & % elongation are almost the same. You will have to confirm it from the codes.

SA-105 / SA-350 LF 2 for forging. Readily available.

Mike

I typically use SA 105 for my CS Forged Bar needs

I agree w/ SA105 and SA350 LF2. There is also, SA266 GR2. The SA350 comes with impact testing and the SA105 does not.

Thanks all for your support I think I have enough info to deicide :)

Agree. But be careful which SA350 LF2 to use as it has 2 classes. Class 1 is rated for -50 F and Class 2 is 0 F.
