Hello all, I am currently building a cabnet that has quite a few eletrical devices built into it (computer monitors, computers, Plasma screen) And it has been a along while since I got through the one electrial subject at uni :) So I am having trouble remembering how to work out how many amps the system will draw, The information I can get off most of the gear is the watts rating.. how can I determine the amps from this info.. also, if using 10 amp cable would it be safe to limit the current in each cable to about 8 amps?

Cheers

For your purposes watts / volts is roughly amps. But nameplate data on most electronic equipment is so conservative that it is nearly meaningless. If you want to know the real load, you need to measure it.

Why don't you use a commercial multi-receptacle strip instead of running individual wiring?
