Hello

I have a very big assembly with plenty of subassemblies, and there is no way to visualize it all together with shaded hardware.

I need to do some snapshots of the 3D, do you know any tool to simplify the model? Or to see only the outer shell of the components or something similar?

Best regards

You could try supressing all of your internal instances so you are only showing the parts you want to take a snap shot of. Have you tried prune? Then showing the JT files? What version of I-Deas are these parts designed in?

Hello

Thanks for your reply. It is I-deas 11. We supress many instances but still is difficult to have all the model available. What we do is to do a copy of the assemblies and delete what we don't want to see, but is taking a lot of time. What are the JT files?

I also tried ctrl+M - construct - add entire assembly - without history.

But with such big assemblies it doesn't work...

JT files are light weight tessellated files used for what you are wanting to do. If you already have all of your assemblies and part in your manage bins prune all of your parts in your assembly hierarchy.

Then in the filters There is a section called pruned instances display and click that to faceted display.

If you are bringing the assembly in from the TDM prune it first when you bring in the assembly. This will only bring in the necessary information to display the assembly with the JT files.

Now

I think starting in I-Deas 10 or so is when the part was checked out and checked in the I-Deas the program was saving a "JT" light weight information in the part file. So any of the parts designed before that release will not have this Light weight in the part file and will not display as a JT file on your screen.

Other work around

Go to file export JT file or Visview file. After you do this it will take a long time to export. Then you can reimport the JT file. TO import the JT file Create an empty assembly. Then add a component to that assembly. When you right click instead of going to Get from Bin you say get from JT file. Then you select that JT file you just created. Then you can get screen shots that way.
