I have a complex assembly for a circuit board that takes up too much RAM. All I need is an approximate blob to put in the next level. I believe Pro/E has a shrink-wrap function that would do just that, with a slider to trade off size and quality. Is there anything like that in SolidWorks? I looked at envelopes, but as far as I can tell you need to create all the geometry manually. I also tried just saving the assembly as a part, but with all the surface complexity, the size was not much smaller.

Thanks for the help!

If I understand correctly, Quick View lets you easily suppress components at startup. I could do that, but it seems like it is just addressing the symptom every time, instead of fixing the problem. Not to mention that I wouldn't be able to see interferences, or make drawings etc. I really don't need the detail in the board at all, it is just a result of the board design software.

Thanks CBL, the SpeedPak fits the bill. It's still a big file on hard disk, but that's ok.

If you are importing the file, like an EMN file then I would suggest checking out the options for import you can do a simplified import then blow away all the little resistor solid bodies and that will cut down file size and make it much more useable.
