Simplifying large assemblies

What’s the best way to take a large assembly and simplify it so people with slow computers will still be able to view and measure from it? In solidworks, I would just save the assembly as a part file keeping only external faces. This would have a large reduction on size while maintaining detail.

Thanks
Matthew

Make a dwf of the assembly.

If you have IV2009, you can create an LOD which is a derived part. And you have many choices on what to do with parts (include, suppress, bounding box, etc.). If you already have the assembly placed, you can just change the LOD and it will be replaced with the derived component. You still have constraints and BOM info as well.
