Howdy!
We have access to a single point lathe at a local college. We have a great ultra-precision machinist turned mechanical engineer. We are interested in iterating on some freeform optics, and looking for the shortest path to getting there. Outsourcing the DT gives longer leadtimes than desirable, so the idea is to get our guy up to speed, and then hopefully iterate on a 1 or 2 week cycle.
Is this crazy? do you know any consultants that would be available to get us moving in a good direction. Please educate me- I come from "normal" high precision robotics (.0001" tolerances are more my realm.) I do not (probobly obviously, based on the above question) have any experience with diamond turning or optical fabrication. and quite frankly the precision both amazes me and scares me.
cheers
