What is the best (read cheapest) way to convert between single and multi mode fiber optics. We ran a 275ft single mode cable but we have multimode devices at both ends. We would replace the cable but it was run across a room that was under construction, and now the wire is entombed. We don't want to tear things up to replace it. We also need to make sure we can still get gigabit transmission. The connectors on both ends of the single mode cable are LC. I think that should cover all the relevant information. Thanks in advance for any help.

Try replacing the communication card installed in your end device. Generally manufactureres supply differnt cards for SM and MM. If this is not feasible, then there is only option to go for SM to MM converters. You may try product of M/s. ALLIED TELESYN (AT-MC 104 Family) or M/s. TELEBYTE (Model 279).
