It is desired to produce 15 liters / h of 92 % v/v ethanol using a still. This will be achieved by heating fermented juice (9.25 % v/v ethanol) in a 525 gallon tank operating at 440 gallons to which 2 stills are connected. It has been proposed to heat the 440 gallons of fermented juice from room temp to about 85 deg C using a heat exchanger in which hot water at 100 deg C will flow on the shell side. the heat exchanger must then maintain temp in the tank at about 85 deg C throughout the process. It is desired to size a heat exchanger for this duty and to size a hot water boiler (BTU/h) to produce hot water at 100 deg C. How would one go about it? Refer to attachment.
