sketching plane "on-the-fly" ???

Honestly, I'm trying to like Wildfire, but there are some strange things.

I would like to create a sketched protrusion with a sketching plane offset from an existing surface.

Why did they remove the ability to create a sketching plane "on-the-fly"? Was there something wrong with the way it worked in 2001? It's strange. Is it a work-around to simply create a datum offset from the surface first and then use the newly created plane as the sketching plane?

For the life of me, I don't think there was anything wrong with the process as it was in 2001.

SrG,

The equivalent now is to start the datum plane tool while picking the sketching plane (you probably have to move the sketch plane dialog box over).

It will group it with your feature and hide the plane for you. This isn't so bad now that Pro/E allows you to nest groups.

The Make Datum command does pop up every now and again in parts of the software that haven't been Wildfire-ized (aka scorched).
