Hello,
I'm doing an analisis of a feature that has small stiffness inside and big stiffness on the surface (and close to it).

I've decided to define a skin on the feature's surface and then assign a proper section to that skin (with a higher stiffness). The shell section that I have created is 4 mm deep.

In the documentation I have read that the shell section shares the nodes with the solid section (lying beneath). And here is my question: if the shell section is 4 mm deep, then, what are the material properties of the elements lying close to the feature's surface? I mean: does Abaqus take into account both shell section's and solid section's material properties? Or maybe only the material properties of the shell section are used for calculation (in the shell's area of course)?

Thanks in advance for any help
