In a motor spec what SLA stands for?

I've never seen that term.

SLA =Surge/Lightning Arrestors ???

Is it a typographical error and should be FLA = Full Load Amps?

Man that would be a strange motor for starting amps to be only a percentage of FLA..

How about Service factor amps Maximum beyond-full-load breifly.. kinda of number ..Someone help me out here.

Service factor (SF) of 110%
Service load amps (SLA = SF x FLA)

Have not heard of it before, but well, maybe......

Where are you reading this? What else is mentioned along with it? Is there a value to SLA mentioned in the spec?

If it is spec written by some one, you need to ask who wrote it.

Seriously though, Service Load Amps. It is another seldom used way of adding the Service Factor into the rating. It was most often used for OEM motors where the motor mfgr was selling a standard design motor, knowing full well that the OEM was going to run it continuously into the service factor. I imagine they did it to try and avoid the service calls from people thinking the motor was running at too high of current ("over amping" as someone put it in this forum not too long ago!).

I haven't seen that used in a long time though. Is that an older motor?
