First off im sorta new to solidwork, so bear with me.

I've seen that i can save my bom as a template. But i want to edit my standard BOM-standard.sldbomtbt

How can this be done? I would like the Part number column to be linked to the properties Part no. instead of the actual file name as it is right now. The Description column in this specific BOM template reads the properties but the Part number column does not.

Help would be appreciated

Thanks in Advance!!

InvivoCorp,
you may want to control properties at the sheet format level. (.slddrt) cruise help using keywords like sheet format.

I see your point now.

InvivoCorp,
search help with keywords bill of material-custom properties.
Part number column could be added easily, but I don't know if you can remove item number.

thx for the help dsgnr1. the revision letter/number is part of the part# in the filename and i dont want that to show in the parts list. Thats why i ask. And if i can have all the BOM info controled by the Properties(Summary Information)(File>Properties) that would be great. Also i am NOT utilizing the Excel Based BOM.

Thanks Again, i'll continue my search for a solution.

Try this:

-insert a BOM on a new drawing, doesn't matter what
-select the "Part Number Column", the properties of that column should appear to the left of the view window
-there should be a few options displayed in the "Column Properties" area - Item Number, Part Number, and User Defined. Choose user defined
-from the "Custom Property" menu, choose the property you want this column to be linked to
-change the title if needed

I have 2004, I don't think this has changed much in 2005.

When you have done as engAlright suggests, do a RMB click on the BOM top (blue) bar, then select Save as template

[cheers]

I thank you for all the help. I was able to do it perfectly and get the rest of our designers on the same page.
