I have been trying to insert solidwork drawings into a word document for a manual. I have been inserting as a linked object, but the BOM is not inserted with the drawing. The rest of the drawing is fine. I have tried several other drawings with the same outcome. I have also tried with other word docs.

I am operating XP, word XP, sw04 sp4.

I have also tried to insert a pdf of the drawing instead, but the object only appears as an icon!!!

Thanks in advance.

If you need a "linked" object drawing, save as a DXF from SW and import that to Word...when you change the SW file, resave the DXF in the same place and it will update in the manual.

Thanks Scott and Alexit

I want to have a slddrw linked object, because the manual will be evolving, and i would like it to update automatically when the sw drawing is updated. So linking a dxf would not be ideal because the person that updates the slddrw would have to also update the dxf.... We have been trying to have only one type of drawing, so would like to keep away from dwg/dxf/pdf etc. Also a screen grab or dwg,jpg etc would not be ideal. But i maybe have to do either if there is no solution.

Have you guys tried to insert a slddrw into word? Does it take the BOM with it? Or is it just my setup?

Does anyone know if sw05 has better integration? We are upgrading shortly...

Thanks
Ryan
