Sleeve for chilled water pipe !

Does an underground chilled water pipe entering a building through grade beam or a wall require any kind of pipe sleeve. If so, what should be the material of the sleeve if the pipe entering is carbon steel, Sch 40. Thanks

You probably want a sleeve in case the foundation expands, or subsides, as you wouldn't want the pipe to potentially break. I'd say a PVC sleeve would do nicely. You should fill the pipe's surrounding annular space with silicone sealant, or similar to prevent water ingress from soil to areas below the foundation. Refrigerated pipes underground are subject to condensing soil moisture and resulting corrosion should the insulation tear or abrade. Use a very good, tough insulation and you may want to think about jacketing the insulation with PVC pipe there too.
