We have a monorail for a couple of tons lifting capacity. The beam is S250x35 the span is about 18ft, the maximumn slenderness ratio is therefore 240+/- (no lateral bracing other than at the ends). The design engineer ignored the ratio and simply considered it as a beam.
Can someone advise if there is a concern for the typical limit of 200? Can monorail be treated as beam-column as well since there is 25% impact load (axial foce).
Thanks in advance.
