Hello all, I am sorry if I sound very green here. I am no seal engineer by any means, but after an extensive search, I just don't know what I am trying to do here. I think I lack the terminology.
I am designing a testing box for refrigeration system, and I need 2 sliding doors to open up on this box, so the cold side of the system can go into this box. In my mind, I see a couple different types of seals but, again, I am not in the seal business, I just need some guidance as far as terms or help with what is already out there.
1, Is there some type of seal that has an overall angle to it, so as soon as the doors start sliding back from the sealed position, there starts to form a gap, (Imagine 2 triangles nested together, and as they are pulled apart, the gap widens), this prevents friction, and would extend the seal life I imagine.
2, some form of a track, where, for most of the door travel, it remains unsealed, but towards the very end, the path changes, as to bring the door "in" closer to what it is sliding against, thereby, creating a tight seal, but when released, the seals are not touching each other.
There would have to be some sort of detent or even a latch necessary to keep both options sealed until necessary to bring the unit out of the test box.
I need to utilize a sliding door because there will be obstructions preventing a standard style closing door from working. The testing needs to simulate real conditions, so I want to make this seal as tight as possible.
I know I probably sound like an idiot, but seals are just not my thing. I appreciate any help, and like I said, I know this all exists, but I just don't know my terminology well enough, but I am always ready to learn. Even if you have a link to a resource, that will be a tremendous help. Thanks!
