Sliding Failure of Cantilever Retaining Walls 1

Hi Folks,

Does anyone have any real-world examples of reinforced concrete cantilever retaining walls which have failed in sliding? It is a failure mechanism which often governs the footing dimensions, but I have never heard of it happening.
 
I am sure some have slid but when the only failure is sliding, it does not tend to look that much different as compared to overturning, wall deflection at the top etc.
 
Not that I can recall but similar to Ron I'm not sure it wouldn't be combined or look similar to overturning.

Soil retaining I'm not sure of, but if I recall a famous dam was the Austin Dam in Pennsylvania that failed due to sliding on "weak" planes.
