Dear engineers,

I'm having one doubt please clarify, in bolted connection we provide slotted according to our requirement, so I doubt is where to provide the slot?
in member or plate?
if a member, what is the reason?
if plate, what is the reason?

please clarify..

When you put the slots in the beam, you then don't need any plate washers because your angle connections will cover the slot. And if you use a shear tab connection, you can then make one plate washer which will cover the whole connection.
But this implies more time spent on the preparing the beam.
If you put slots in the plate, then you save time on the beam itself, but you'll have a whole bunch of little square plate washers to put at your bolts.

Like ameyerrenke says, it ends up being a decision your customer has to choose depending on where he saves the most money and/or time.
