At least one for every delivery. If you are using a pump, check the slump at the discharge chute of the transit mixer and again at the point of discharge of the pump...that way you can tell how much influence the pumping has on slump loss.

Please can you provide the code for your answer. Is ASTM C 143 or ASTM C 94?

ASTM C143 is the method for performing the slump test. C94 is the standard for ready-mix concrete. Neither gives you the number of slump tests to be done. Slump tests should be specified by the engineer of record at the desired frequency.

ACI 301 (and the IBC by incorporation of ACI 301) and ASTM C31 require Slump (ASTM C143) to be done for every set of ASTM C39 strength specimen cast. this is a minimum. there could be other factors in the application of the concrete placed that require additional testing to comply with other ASTMs and ACI standards/codes. We know nothing about the concrete structure or mix being placed.

one with the first truck and then everytime you take a sample

What bb29510 and additionally whenever you want if you think a truck is to wet. I like to observe the whole placement, more hours and I've never had a Super get pissed about me making them spin the drum until the truck is in spec, i've heard rumors that is common but never happened to me [2thumbsup]

Test slump as often as stated in the specifications. And more for whatever reason.

. . . and then we get mixes with 75 mm max stone - and having to sieve to get it all at less than 40 mm . . . in some mixes the slump isn't the way to go . . .
