Hello Everybody
I have a problem.
I want to simulate human rib bone in Abaqus Software, so i take this steps:
Catia Software=>Sketch tracer=>Draw Sections from CT image=>Extract Closed Curve=>Multi Sections Surface=>Closed Surface=>Multi Sections Solid (Picture 1,2)=>Save .stp File=>Import in Abaqus (Picture 3).
Problem:
When i want to mesh the part in Abaqus, there is small faces (Picture 3) and this small faces create the small and distorted elements.
Now How can i solve this problem? Should i change my import format? if yes To what? or change my draw approach in Catia Software? or ...
With Best Regards.
yassou.

It would be best to repair this in CATIA but „Virtual Topology” tools available in Abaqus may handle this as well. Try to combine these small faces with bigger ones or ignore their edges. If this doesn’t work try „Geometry edit” tools - „Replace faces” with („Extend neighboring faces” on) or „Repair small faces” which was designed for this purpose.

Hi dear FEA way
Thanks for your respond.
Indeed you are right, I tried the Geometry edit” tools - „Replace faces” with („Extend neighboring faces” on) or „Repair small faces”. But none of them did not solve this problem because they change the geometry of the model significantly or in some area they can't combine or remove the small faces.
Therefore i should look to the Catia, maybe i should use the Curve Smooth to simplify the Sketch, therefore extra/redundant vertices be removed.
with best regards.

I guess you can’t attach your model here, right ? I could try to fix it in Abaqus, maybe it would work somehow.

But still it’s best to repair models in CAD software first and then import them to Abaqus since its 3D modeling capabilities are limited.
