What is the difference, if any between checkin from SmarTeam client or SmarTeam menu in CATIA ?

Out of the box, I don't think there is any difference.
I have a site that hooked a script to 'before Release' to do a few things (like create PDFs and such).
If those scripts require Catia, you'll need to be able to handle that exception when Releasing purely through the thick client.
