All,
This Thursday I am attending a Smarteam demo at our sister company and was wondering if PDMWorks is compatible with this software. We are currently using PDMWorks 2004 (we have 8 licenses) and would still like use this product along with Smarteam as far as managing our electronic data. It seems that our sister company and the remaining 4 companies are have some issues managing there electronic data and the goal is to have everyone one under one PLM/PDM system. All the companies uses Solidworks as there primary software along with MDT/Autocad. Any info on the Smarteam software will be appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

macduff

We use Smarteam where I am at now. We currently have 12 seats and I would have to say that after the initial setup and growing pains Smarteam works fine for us. We have been using it since version 3 (July 2000) when it was horrible. So horrible that we threatened to get rid of them. After that they were real receptive to our issues and were very helpful in fixing our problems. Since then however the product has matured and is now quite reliable. It does what we want it to do, which is to keep our data secure. Check in, check out and release. If you go with Smarteam make sure that who ever does your initail set up and migration is knowledgeable. I can't stress that enough. I think that played a big role in our early frustration with it.

I have never used PDMworks so I can't compare the two. I know that when we were looking at a PDM system it was evalutated (before Solidworks bought them) but for some reason or other did not work for us.

I don't think the two are compatible. They are both PDM systems. I think it would have to be one or the other.

Last I heard Smarteam doesn't keep up with the latest SP or versions. They are always a step or two behide SW. You can't upgrade till Smarteam has updated their version to work with the new SP or major release. A Major release I can understand but not SP. When I tell my Smarteam customers to update they always tell me they can't till Smarteam notifies them that their latest SP is upgraded and now works with SPX.X. I might be wrong, because I don't use Smarteam.

PDMworks is always updated with the whatever SP is avialble at solidworks. I only use it for my customers files. From the short time I have used it. I haven't had much trouble. But then again this forum offers a lot of resource for PDMworks.
