Due to large assemblies, we have recently bought Dell Workstation. Using Proe 2000i, Windows 2000 professional, Intel Xeon Processor, 2.4 Mhz, 1 GB Ram, ATI Fire GL2-X1 128MB Vedio card... the problem is when open up larger assemblies or drawing (around 12 MB size) the out of memory indicator appears on the screen to free up some memory. Is this is too big a file for the specified system or their is somewhere some other problem? Help

How large are all the refereneced files in your assembly or drawing? A 12MB assembly or drawing can reference gigabytes of part files. Take a look at the task manager when opening your large files. Is the memory indicator graph very high? If so, you need more memory.

If the taks manager does not show that you are maxing out your memory, check out the following:
How big is your pagefile set? I have experienced this message when the pagefile was set to be very large (over 3-4 GB). I have found that main memory + pagefile size should be kept at or below 4GB.

I have also seen this message with faulty or incompatible RAM.

Also, for best performance the max and min pagefile size should be the same.

First of all thank you for responding.

The total files are 260MB (folder is purge), the top assembly file size is 319 KB and the drawing file size is 9 MB.

I checked my computer the page file was set at 4 GB. I change the size to 1.97 GB (Physical 1 GB and page 1 GB), and I launched the Proe assembly first which came out OK than I open up the drawing at that point out of memory message appears (it always appears at the same before and after changing pagefile size).

The task manager shows around 1.5 GB Total and Peak memory with 1.97 GB Limit. And about 9000K of Physical memory available.

The system is Dell Precision 650 with Infenion memory on it and is brand new system. I don't know if any memory is incompatible or faulty?
